Is there something you want to learn more about, or have a guided discussion about that you’ve never had opportunity for? Living Stones is a small church and there are always more good and interesting topics, ideas, and controversies than we are able to cover on Sunday AM or in Sunday School. I often hear things like "I’d like to learn more about this. People should know more about that. Can’t you teach a class on such and such?" The difficulty is usually finding a group of committed, interested people to make the class worthwhile. For this reason I’m making the following offer: If you can find 5 people (they don’t all have to be from Living Stones) who are interested and committed to coming to one class on a topic that you agree upon, I’ll prepare for it and lead the class/discussion. Topics can be on pretty much anything you want. (If I feel I’m not able to lead a helpful discussion on the subject I’ll tell you.) You find the people, find a time slot that works for your 5, and I’ll prepare to lead it. Schedule 1 to 2 hours for the class depending on the topic and discussion. You can even turn it into a little party by bringing food, etc. There is no long term commitment, the group only meets once and anyone else interested beyond the 5 that want to come can also participate. If you want to meet again, or on another topic just gather a new 5 and schedule another one.

Possible topics: (This list isn’t meant to limit you. These are just ideas that people have brought to me in the past wanting to learn more about. The limits here are interest, creativity, and my ability to write a class on it!)

How to get started:

  1. Get a "Find Five Friends" proposal sheet and start filling it out. (Download the PDF below or fill one out on the Wiki. You can distribute your Wiki version via an e-mail link. Talk to Paul if you have questions about this.)
  2. Chose a topic, subject, or Bible passage that you want the session to focus on. If it is your idea you get to be the "Initiator".
  3. Find 4 other people who are sufficiently interested in the topic to commit to coming to the session. If you only know of one or two, try posting it on the bulletin board at church to see if there is anyone else who is interested in it. I’ll also create a page one Wiki if that is more helpful.
  4. Find a time slot that works for everyone and schedule it with the Paul.
  5. Publicize your event inviting anyone else that might be interested in the subject to come. Paul and Jane can help you with this.
