As some of you know the sign currently on our front corner was constructed to be a temporary sign. It has been with us a few years now and is starting to show weather damage. We will likely need to replace it in a year or two with a more permanent sign. Roger Dornbush, who was instrumental in designing and constructing our landscaping has been ruminating on some ideas and has made some mock-up pictures of some of his ideas. Now is a good time to start dreaming and talking about it. Here are a couple of pictures that Roger has created through the amazing technology of digital photography: Here is Rogers Sign Idea #1: Notice the "L" get's an interesting shaping.
Here is Roger's sign idea #2. Notice the top of the sign is relatively flat.
More details from Roger on his idea: For more construction detail:
- The sign will go on top of a support wall or base using the same brick and stile and height as the existing retaining walls
- The brick for the background of the sign will be the "same" color but with a smooth surface
- The wall/base supporting the sign will not have a planter box between it and the sign
- Sign size (above the wall/base) approximately 3 ft by 8 ft, plus raised portion for the cross
- I am thinking the letters will be approximately the same size as the existing sign
- Letters will be cut out of steel and powder coated (painted) with the two colors for permanent coloring
- Letter will be mounted onto the sign approx 2 inches off the surface
Questions that I imagine will come on the heals of this:

A water feature would be fantastic; however, the location might not work well. It is to accessible to the sidewalk and street. It is not uncommon for teens to add soap and paint and other items to exposed water features. Understand that this happened to some of the newer churches in the Rosevile area. An elevated water feature might work on the main ground behind the fencing or on the grass area directly outside kitchen (where the ground was recently opened up). This area also has accesibility to water lines.Would make for a nice focal point when entering the gates to the church grounds.
Like the idea of boulders of various sizes near the sign. A ground cover would be bronze ajuga. This plant is low to the ground, easy to grow and maintain, has an interersting leaf color and periodically throughout the year produces a vertical purple flower (approx. 2" - 3 tall)
